“Learning another language is not only learning different words for the same things, but learning another way to think about things.”
I've been a student of language since I was old enough to read dictionaries. I love words, grammar, and etymology. I love how 'mellifluous' sounds like its meaning, or just saying the word 'lullaby' relaxes me.
After working as a senior Technology manager for 30 years, mainly in Television, I fulfilled an ambition and retrained as an English teacher. I qualified as a CELTA teacher in the Summer of 2019.
I now combine business and language experience, in order to coach and develop students in business and general English. I specialise in teaching English for IT, both technical English and English for interview.
When I'm not teaching, I'm travelling and blogging my way through Latin America.
My style of teaching is based on the Communicative Approach. There is a lot of theory behind this, but in simple terms:
The best way to learn a language is to use the language.
You won't be repeating verb conjugations by rote. You won't be memorising lists of words for a test.
We'll focus on using real English, in real situations - whether it's going to the doctor or the shop, talking to your friends, or attending a job interview.
On a personal level, I'm patient and relaxed. I specialise at making people feel relaxed and building their confidence with the language.
I currently teach on the iTalki platform. If you'd like to connect to my Profile there, and possibly book a lesson, please click the button below.
